Founded in 1894 the Walthamstow & District Photographic Society (WDPS) is one of the oldest photographic societies in the UK. It is affiliated to the East Anglia Federation of Photographic Societies〔http://www.eaf.org.uk/index.php/clubs/member-clubs.html〕 which in turn is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. The Society meet most Monday evenings in Walthamstow, a suburb of London, between 8pm and 10pm. Its 80+ members are a mixture of professional and amateur photographers of all ages and backgrounds, brought together by a love of photography. At weekly meetings there are a mixture of talks from photographers, competitions for members, and member's evenings which will be practical sessions. The Society holds a number of competitions each year, including the Walker Trophy, Centenary Trophy, Albert Bale Trophy〔http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/4040661.WALTHAMSTOW__Photographer_and__gentleman__dies/〕 and the Goddard Memorial Trophy. These competitions are open to all members and are judged by external judges who are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Once a year the Society hold an annual exhibition in the autumn where the work of the Society is shown to members of the public.
